What is the point of this week (The goals)

The point of the week is to advance our discussion of the problem of polarization by looking at possible solutions, particularly the institutional change known as proportional representation.

Why learn this? (The reasons)

This is the part of the course where we need to start thinking about solutions to problems. I am in Germany right now with other people who are doing just that--thinking about possible solutions to the polarization problem in the United States (and some other problems as well). One possible solution is the system of proportional representation used in Germany. We can use the German case as a way to explore possible policy solutions and test out our method..

**What should you do before class? (The reading)**

For Monday, please read one text and watch one video:

(Keep in mind that Protect Democracy is listed by Media Bias Fact Check as a "Center-Left organization" but one with "High Credibility" and that the organization has committed itself to furthering electoral reform)

What is due:

On Friday the Agency Project Part 4 (PS1000 Agency Project, Part 4: Explore Your Solutions) will be due but don't worry about it until we discuss it in class on Monday.
