Group project: description

Syllabus description:

The goal of this project is to prepare a recorded presentation about an aspect of contemporary Polish culture of interest to you. You will be working on this project in groups of three to five people. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: film, politics, theater, sports, Polish participation in the Olympics, clubbing, cars, poetry, soccer culture, Polish pop celebrities, popular music, video games, the effect of global warming on Poland, LGBT rights in Poland, the Women's Strike, influential women of Poland, and famous Polish mountain climbers (such as Wanda Rutkiewicz, Maciej Berbeka and Magdalena Gorzkowska.)

Your presentation needs to have the following components:

  1. images/soundtrack related to the topic you will be talking about
  2. description with a critical review
  3. biography of the artist (if applicable)
  4. information about the artists/art styles which influenced the artist (if applicable)
  5. additional information you might deem relevant,
  6. bibliography of the sources used in the presentation.

Your presentation should be approximately 10 minutes long  and everybody in the group needs to be involved in its creation in order to receive credit. In addition, every member of the group needs to record a part of the presentation.

Your presentation needs to be well-organized, creative, factually accurate, clearly presented and hold the attention of the audience.

As this is an online class, you will need to record your presentation, and upload it. There are many programs that allow for doing so.
My suggestion:
- record your presentation on Zoom (using "screen share" and "presenter's view"),
- edit it,
 - upload to YouTube as an "unlisted" video, and
- share the link to your video with the class, by posting it to this Discussion.

The necessary steps for completing this project could be as follows:

  1. choose the topic and form the group (post the information to Discussion on Canvas; use this Discussion),
  2. gather the information, images, soundtracks, etc.,
  3. write the script,
  4. prepare a Power Point presentation, which will go with the written script,
  5. record the script with the use of Zoom (with "presenter's view", preferably)
  6. edit the recording (which includes combining all of the pieces, if separate recordings were made),
  7. upload the project to YouTube as “unlisted video”,
  8. post the video link to this Discussion.

The presentations are going to be peer-evaluated. After the presentations are posted, the instructor is going to send the class a link to the evaluation questionnaire.  The maximum score for the project is 10 points, and the project constitutes 10% of the final grade.

The deadline for choosing Art/Mores topics, and forming a group is September 29.

The deadline to post your finished presentation is Wednesday, October 27 at  11:59 pm.
